One such artist is Sailor Jane, whose voice rises from the historic shores of St. Augustine, Florida—America’s oldest city—yet carries echoes of Jamaica’s musical legacy with every note.

Born Rachel Miller, this soulful singer-songwriter effortlessly bridges oceans and cultures. Her sound is deeply rooted in authenticity and heart, shaped by a life lived beyond the borders of her hometown.

Raised in the church and first moved by gospel melodies on her grandfather’s radio station, Sailor Jane’s musical journey took flight through classical guitar studies, a degree in audio engineering, and a pivotal love affair with reggae that began at age 18. Her path has been anything but ordinary—marked by travels across the seas, a vibrant chapter in Costa Rica, and a spiritual connection to the rhythms of roots reggae that now define her sound.

With a voice that’s both ethereal and powerful, Sailor Jane has opened for reggae legends such as The Wailers, Collie Buddz, Kabaka Pyramid, and Pato Banton. She has graced the stages of festivals including Reggae Rise Up Florida, Hulaween, Fernandina Reggae Fest, and the Sweet Jamaica Independence Festival, where she was backed by the iconic Jamaican band, Fab 5.

Her most recent project is her debut album, No Ordinary Dub – SADE Reimagined—a collection of 14 classic Sade songs, carefully selected and reimagined by Sailor Jane. Produced by Michael Goldwasser of Easy Star All-Stars and featuring a full roster of Jamaican musicians, the album was recorded during a deeply personal health crisis, making it a true testament to both resilience and artistry.

Sailor Jane’s presence in reggae is a beautiful blend of soul, strength, and cultural appreciation. Though not Jamaican by birth, her commitment to the genre is unwavering. She spends significant time on the island, collaborating with Jamaican producers and artists—including a recent single released on a Tad’s Records compilation produced by reggae icon Leroy Sibbles.
